Bad news for fans: One of the best Netflix series canceled after just 2 seasons

“Altered Carbon” fans now have to be very strong: Netflix has canceled the science fiction series after two seasons (and an anime film). For us, “Altered Carbon” is one of the streaming provider’s best series, at least in the first season.

It was not until February 2020 that Netflix released the second season “Altered Carbon – Das Immortlichkeitsprogamm” after a two-year waiting period, but whoever (like us) assumed a third season of the science fiction series must now be prepared for disappointment:

All speculations about a possible new leading actor in season 3 (after Joel Kinnaman in season 1 and Anthony Mackie in season 2) are just as invalid as assumptions about the return of possible characters.

It was only recently announced that Netflix had canceled two series popular with fans and critics because it would have been too time-consuming and expensive to continue them under Corona conditions.

As the US industry magazine Deadline reports, the cancellation in this case has nothing to do with COVID-19, but is “only” due to the streaming provider’s normal and, in such cases, tough cost-benefit calculation. Apparently not enough (new) customers watched the second season of “Altered Carbon” to justify the costs of a third season.

Angry and disappointed fans

On social media, many fans expressed their anger and their incomprehension about the end of “Altered Carbon” and accused Netflix of robbing viewers of the well-deserved third season and harming themselves by canceling one of the best series.

Other fans, on the other hand, expressed understanding because they were disappointed by the (in our eyes) much weaker second season and probably didn’t have particularly high hopes for a good third season anyway.
