Freaks on Netflix Does the Dark author give another mindfuck in Part 2

“Freaks” on Netflix: Does the “Dark” author give another mindfuck in Part 2?

“Dark” co-author Marc O. Seng tells in “Freaks” a relatively straightforward story about people with special abilities. A somewhat more complex sequel, in which open questions are dealt with, is quite conceivable – but is it absolutely necessary?

“Dark” is not only one of the best and most popular Netflix series, but also one of the most complex. Such tricky entanglements only work really well if the script is right down to the smallest detail – and everything within the series (or the film) makes sense.

The review for “Freaks – You are one of us”

With “Freaks – You are one of us”, author Marc O. Seng, who also worked on several of the follow-up scripts to “Dark”, now provided the script for the new German Netflix film in which a group of completely normal people suddenly have supernatural abilities – and has to deal with it first. With a lot of love for the cinema (which is celebrated with numerous references to “Matrix” and Co.), but without too big surprises, Seng tells a relatively straightforward story. But it doesn’t have to stay that way …

The open end could usher in part 2 directly

As with Marvel and Co 123 MOVIES., it is also worthwhile with “Freaks” to remain seated at the end credits (or to let them continue). If you switch off too early, you will miss the film’s closing scene.

In it you can see: Wendy’s son (Finnlay Berger), who is being harassed again by the boys who made life difficult for him before. This time, however, he is not so easy to get down – because he too now has superpowers and lets the three brawlers float in the air.

Part 2 was already the subject of the filming of “Freaks”. At least Cornelia Gröschel (“Tatort”) and Co. asked themselves during the production what other superpowers there might be in the world, as the leading actress revealed in an interview. In conversation with us, the stars of the film also expressed more or less specific wishes for a possible sequel …

Wishes for “Freaks 2”: Strong opponents and a “very good story”

Simply telling the same thing in green in Part 2 would be out of the question for the Wendy actress. Gröschel immediately made this clear in the interview: “It has to be a really good story so that it is still interesting.” Part 1, however, leaves enough questions unanswered that could be taken up in a sequel – from the origin of the superpowers to the Ask if there is perhaps a far-reaching conspiracy behind this.

“There has to be a really good story so that it is still interesting.”

Tim Oliver Schultz (“Club of the Red Ribbons”), on the other hand, has a somewhat clearer idea of how things could go on. After his character takes a big turn in the film and doesn’t see a like-minded person in Wendy anymore, but rather an adversary, Schultz especially wants “finally decent opponents” for “Freaks 2”.

However, according to Schultz, a mindfuck à la “Dark” is not absolutely necessary – since “Freaks 2” is all about how ordinary people deal with their extraordinary abilities. Even a larger team is not necessary in a possibly larger second part, after all, his Elmar alias Electro Man alone has enough to offer:

However, according to Schultz, a mindfuck à la “Dark” is not absolutely necessary – since “Freaks 2” is all about how ordinary people deal with their extraordinary abilities.

“Electro In principle, you can control everything, for example any electric vehicle and thus get anywhere you want. That’s why the creative possibilities for a second part are inexhaustible, ”says Schultz, who would definitely be up for a sequel. He had a lot of fun playing the “bad guy” and raved about the filming to us: “I had the time of my life!”

And who knows, maybe this time will continue soon – on the set of “Freaks 2” …
